Drum Tuition

Bespoke, private drum lessons – one to one drum tutoring and group drum lessons & percussion workshops – in person & online.

I have taught many students from the Rockschool and Trinity music syllabus from Grade 1 to 8. I also work through song approach, drum fills, drum grooves, rudiments, various drum exercises and warm up routines.

One of the key books I use when teaching is Tommy Igoe’s Groove Essentials 1.0 and 2.0 which is very beneficial to drummers who want to be versatile players.

I currently teach drums at three London secondary schools and privately to pupils in person or online via Zoom or Skype.

Drum Lessons

How it works

Firstly, I find out what the student’s musical goals are, what type of music they’re into and how long they want lessons for. I can then adapt the lessons to suit each pupil’s musical needs.

Bandlab project – Music software courses for schools & colleges

BandLab Workshop with teenagers at a north London school 2
BandLab Workshop with teenagers at a north London school

Bandlab project is aimed at 10 to 18 year olds that can be done on Zoom or in person which shows participants how to make their own tracks lasting 1 to 3 minutes long based on genres they like.

I show the process of how to create loop tracks, with input from the students. The three important elements to creating a song are; rhythm, harmony and melody. I then let the students know which instruments are good for each element.

Students apply what they have been taught through playing around with Bandlab. Every 10 minutes I check in on the pupil’s progress whilst providing tips and suggestions on how to improve their tracks. Towards the end participants are then shown how to convert the track to a WAV or mp3 file and are given the opportunity to play their tracks to the class.

Main benefit of using Bandlab is that it’s a free software programme that can be used on most smartphones, tablets and laptops. For anyone who has no instruments at home, and does not want to spend loads of money on instruments or DAW software, Bandlab is the programme to use.

The benefits of anyone creating their own tracks are participants will not need to pay a music producer loads of money to do it, they will be able to do it themselves for free. Also you don’t have to play an instrument to make a track you can do it through loops/samples, and the programme has built in instruments to use too.

Percussion Workshops

I currently organise percussion workshops at two London primary schools and have previously led Djembe workshops at Wac Arts, a music organisation in North London.

My lessons involve some of my own rhythms and a mixture of tasks on Charanga which, is a popular music teaching and learning platform that various primary schools use in the United Kingdom. I prepare pupils for performances, whether at schools, music festivals, assemblies or special events.

If you need any group percussion workshops in your school, church or music hub drop me a line.
